Oxitopisa

It is an injectable solution made with Oxytocin, a synthetic hormone that acts selectively on smooth muscle and is indicated for inducing or accelerating labor, stimulating the evacuation of tissues and fluids retained in the uterus (placenta, lochia, and pus), promoting milk let-down, and reducing the incidence of acute or chronic mastitis in female cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, dogs, and cats.

FORMULA:
Each milliliter contains:
Oxytocin 20 I.U.
Vehicle cbp 1mL

ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE:
OXITOPISA® is administered via: Intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneous. The general dose to be used is: Cows and mares: 5 mL Sheep and goats: 1 to 2.5 mL Sows: 1 to 2.5 mL Bitches and queens: 0.25 to 0.5 mL. The dose to accelerate milk let-down in cows is 0.50 to 1 mL at milking time.

OXITOPISA® also stimulates the acini found in the mammary gland, causing their contraction which induces milk ejection into the teat cistern, allowing its exit.
PHARMACOKINETICS: When OXITOPISA® is administered intravenously, it causes uterine contractions almost immediately. When administered intramuscularly, uterine contraction occurs between 3 and 5 minutes. The contractile duration of the uterus averages between 13 and 20 minutes. In ruminants, oxytocin has a half-life of approximately 22 minutes. It is rapidly metabolized in the liver and kidneys, and circulating oxytocinase enzyme can also destroy the hormone. Small amounts are excreted in the urine without modification of their chemical structure.
IMPORTANCE: The importance of OXITOPISA® lies in the fact that it is a product that induces and improves uterine contractions at the time of parturition, favoring the expulsion of the product, expulsion of the placenta and fluids retained in the uterus; it also favors uterine involution, milk let-down, and reduces the incidence of mastitis.
INDICATIONS: OXITOPISA® is indicated to stimulate uterine motility and to induce and accelerate labor, it is used as an aid in endometritis, hemorrhages, and correction of uterine prolapse, as well as to stimulate the evacuation of tissues and fluids retained in the uterus (placenta, lochia, and pus). At the beginning of lactation, OXITOPISA® is indicated to promote milk let-down, to remove milk residues from the mammary gland, and to reduce the incidence of acute or chronic mastitis.

WARNING:
 This is a veterinary product, not suitable for human use.  Store at room temperature not exceeding 30 °C and protect from light.  Keep out of reach of children.  Do not administer to horses intended for human consumption.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD: Do not use this product 30 days before the slaughter of animals intended for human consumption.

PRESENTATION: Amber glass ampule vials with 50 mL.
